“Tzvika Levy, a resident of Kibbutz Yifat in the Jezreel Valley has been running the Lone Soldier project for the Kibbutz Movement, the IDF, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption for 18 years straight. “The number of Lone Soldiers which I deal with rises each year, and currently we have surpassed many all time highs, with over 900 Lone Soldiers serving in the IDF at once”, Levy said. He added: “Until now, over the 30 years of the project, thousands of soldiers from 44 countries around the world served in the IDF and were hosted on Kibbutzim. I salute the Kibbutzim who continue to volunteer to adopt these Lone Soldiers even though they are going through tough times. These are soldiers who come to serve in the IDF out of love of Israel and a real yearning to assist in the security of the country. It turns out that Zionism is still part of us and the best home for these Lone Soldiers is on the Kibbutzim, their when they ask a soldier how he is doing they actually care”.

“In the wedding invitation which Ariel sent to Tzvika Levy, amongst other things, he wrote: “2 years ago you brought to our Kibbutz a Lone Soldier. You told me to ‘Welcome her, make her a cup of coffee’. I listened to you and I fell in love with her… and now, 2 years later, we are about to get married and are we want to invite you to stand with us under the Chupa”.

They did not forget the personal attention which Tzvika Levy provided them with throughout their army service as Lone Soldiers. “It was our honor that Tzvika stood with us under the Chupa. Unfortunately, both of out biological fathers were not at the wedding, but for us Tzvika is like a father”. They both said excitedly: “Our aim is to establish a family and home in Israel, and maybe because of this our families with make Aliyah”.

Tzvika Levy (64), Lt. Col. (Res) in Tzanchanim who was called up 3 days ago with a Tzav 8 [emergency draft order], managed to get out for one hour and attend the wedding. He said: “A event like this in which 2 of my ‘children’ get married to each other and build their home in Israel is nothing less than the fulfillment of my dream”.

” ‘If they feel good, they will be the best spokespersons for Israel,’ adds Levy… Levy not only expects everyone to do their job, he also acts on it. His job fills all his spare time, from morning to night he runs from one place to another in order to do all he can to reduce the loneliness of the lone soldier. He finds them a loving warm home in a kibbutz for the duration of their service and solves any problem he can, sidestepping bureaucracy. He also receives dozens of calls from worried parents from all over the world, who see him a natural point of contact to find out how their child is doing. ”

” Levy is aware there are around 20 other organizations helping lone soldiers and that the military doesn’t really have a clear policy about these groups, but he believes he sets the high standard for the quality of care. It will also be quite impossible to find anyone else to take part in 60km treks he does. ‘I put on my uniform and listen to them,’ he says, ‘they speak to me as a parent – even things they don’t mention to their direct person in charge of their service conditions.’ ”
